Champaign-Urbana

In late September 2011, the IDOT Fall Planning Conference was held in Champaign, Illinois that attracted transportation professionals from all over the State. At this conference three tours were offered including Champaign-Urbana Mass Transit District, Illinois Center for Transportation, and Boneyard Creek Project.
Champaign Urban Mass Transit District serves 10 million people with a growing fleet of hybrid busses. While C-UMTD isn’t the largest transportation system, it has received some of the highest honors within the transportation industry.




The Illinois Center for Transportation is a premier transportation research center that builds on the experience of renowned experts in transportation and related fields at the University of IL and IDOT by providing the appropriate tools and support requires for objective research.

A Community Problem Becomes a Community Asset: Surface water management was a problem for the City of Champaign. The solution is a community asset that combines historic preservation, bicycles/pedestrian improvement, a public park, improved water quality and native landscaping. The Boneyard Creek Project is transforming the interface between downtown Champaign and the University of Illinois campus.
