Champaign Urbana Mass Transit District

Champaign Urban Mass Transit District serves 10 million people with a growing fleet of hybrid busses. While C-UMTD isn’t the largest transportation system, it has received some of the highest honors within the transportation industry.

C-UMTD has a drive through bus wash station that has saved them millions of gallons of water each year, just one of the many sustainable initiatives they provide.

A separate closed off well ventilated area was built specifically for painting the vehicles. The toxins are not released into the environment.

The garage doors in the facility are built to withstand any impact from a bus detatching and reattaching via magnets. These doors alone have save C-UMTD thousands of dollars in repairs and utilities. The red door opens and closes 5x faster than a standard door which make a difference with the heating and cooling of the facility.

A light bulb shredder is located in the garage that extracts the mercury prior to crushing the bulb.
