The meeting was called to order at 11:04am by Committee Chairperson, Arnold Herman and introductions of those in attendance was done.

Guest speaker: The guest speaker was Steve Simms, Region 9 Coordinator of IEMA.  Steve presented a PowerPoint on emergency services throughout the State.  He discussed the role HSTP, public & private transportation providers can play in emergency situations by having vehicles available in times of need.  Steve explained how local ESDA’s maintain emergency services and disaster agencies on the local level and providers should consider having Memorandums of Understanding with their local ESDA.  He will forward a template of a MOU to the Coordinator for further distribution.

Coordination:  The Committee was provided with a transportation resource list of the region.  If any changes or updates need to be made please let the Coordinator know so the list can stay maintained and useful.

Bill Jung discussed an MOU partnership between RIDES, Jackson Co.  MTD, the Rural Medical Transportation Network & Marion Veterans Administration for a ‘1 click\1 call’ system to schedule transportation.  Also, local public providers have been working together and have applied for a grant that would fund designated transfer stations in various locations.  Bill & Debra will keep us posted on those issues.

Debra Staggs announced that there will be a Public Education & Outreach meeting, for the Effingham Co. primer process, on Dec. 18^th at 9:00am.  This meeting will be held the Effingham Co. office building.  A coordination meeting for service providers in Effingham Co. will follow at 1:00pm at the Effingham Co. Senior Center.

Committee Bylaws: The Subcommittee reported on the changes that were made to the bylaws.  After some discussion on some wording that needs to be removed, the Committee voted to approve the bylaws.  Everyone will receive a final approved copy at the March meeting. 

General Discussion: Terri Finn discussed recent activities that she & staff of some public transit agencies have been involved in with getting information to Veteran’s about using public transportation, the availability & affordability.  Terri explained that at the Region 11 meeting, the idea of offering free rides in the month of November (Veteran’s Day observance) was brought up.  For it to be statewide initiative, public providers need to bring this up at IPTA meetings.  The providers in attendance at the Region 10 meeting were encouraged to do this also.

Terri Finn offered Mobility Management training to any agency that has a need, whether it is for staff, clients or 1 on 1 with a specific client.

Stories, pictures, etc. are needed for the HSTP newsletter.

The March meeting will be time for election of officers (Chair, Co-Chair, and Secretary).  The Coordinator will send an email with eligible members for nomination.  Please send those nominations, or volunteer to take a position, before the March meeting.

The next meeting was scheduled for March 12, 2013 at CILA Corporation, Carrington Villa, 1050 Grainger Blvd. in Flora.  The meeting will start at 11:00.
